Algea's Sustainable harvesterSUSTAINABLE HARVESTING

We have designed our purpose-built paddlewheels by ourselves in order to operate in very shallow waters. Our professional harvesters cut and gather Norwegian Ascophyllum nodosum in a sustainable manner, leaving at least 10 cm of the seaweed stem attached to the rocks, thus allowing it to fully grow again after four to five years. Our harvesting method ensures that this wonderful resource continues to grow naturally and be available to men, animals and land.

UNIQUE METHOD

The harvesting is carried out after our own floating principle. Paddlewheel-driven harvesters cut (not dredge) the seaweed above the seabed, and only the fresh plants float to the surface and are picked up. We wait patiently until the cut fresh seaweeds float to the surface of the water to be collected. This unique method is easy on the environment and ensures that only fresh seaweed free from contamination (like shells, sand and small stones) is used as raw material for our products.

CAREFUL PROCESS

Special care is taken by Algea throughout the processing stages, from harvesting to drying, milling and packing, to protect the valuable components of the raw material. Algea carefully processes the fresh Ascophyllum nodosum upon arrival at the factory, thus ensuring that all the valuable and important substances in the seaweeds are retained in the finished products. Algea's production is fully controlled in order to have the best quality products available on the market.
We not only comply with Norwegian laws and regulation, we also produce according to EU Hygiene regulations.
Moreover we adopt Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures.
